I was with my husband at church not long ago, and we all gathered around a couple who needed prayer. We were all praying, standing there with our hands either touching them or stretched toward them, but I had to sit down a few minutes into the prayer. My back was hurting too much to continue to stand there, especially when I knew that the prayer could last for a long time. After the service was over, my husband told me that he was going to make me an appointment with a chiropractor in Santa Barbara.
He hated to see how much pain I am in on a daily basis. It is not bad on a lot of days when I can just sit and relax, but that is not good for me either. I need to move, but moving is what causes the pain. What hurts even worse is just standing still, which puts a tremendous amount of pressure on my back. I knew something had to be done, but I was terrified medical professionals were going to tell me I needed back surgery, so I just kept putting it off.
My mother and an aunt both had back surgeries, and neither one of them truly recovered from it. I did not want the same thing happening to me. What I did not know was that a chiropractor does not want to tell someone they need surgery either. They are about natural healing more than cutting into someone and operating. I was relieved to go after finding that out, and I was even happier after my third appointment a few weeks later. I never knew how much I missed being able to move around freely without pain because the pain had come on so slowly. I feel better now than I have in years!
